Exploring Siargao

The Surprise
My boyfriend planned this trip all on his own so we could celebrate and make our third anniversary memorable. He didn't tell me about the trip until two weeks before the travel period. He wanted to wait a week more but saw that I needed a pick me up because problems at work have been very upsetting and surprising me with a Siargao trip definitely worked!
Siargao is in my bucket list so I was very excited to explore its wonderful beaches and SURF. I checked the weather a week before we left and was disappointed to see rain showers throughout our stay. I told my boyfriend that whatever the weather, we must surf! I am not leaving Siargao without trying it. Why else go there, right? Just kidding!

Transportation: Airport to Resort
We took the van provided by the resort we're staying at priced at P 400.00/person. We're staying at Patrick's On The Beach located at General Luna where most resorts are situated. The travel time from the airport to the resort is about an hour and that's already without traffic.
During the travel, your view will be filled with a green landscape of shrubs and trees, wide uninhabited areas (almost giving me an eerie feel), and farm animals (mostly pigs). This reminds me a bit of Siquijor and Palawan.
You know when you're nearing General Luna, the busy part of Siargao, when mango trees start to line up the roads and you see more and more houses in the area.

Where to Stay?

Patrick's On The Beach
This is a beachfront resort right at the heart of General Luna. We initially wanted to stay at Kermit's but they were already fully booked and that was still July! But, Patrick's was still a good choice and their customer service was great! The room had everything we needed--Cable TV, WiFi, hot and cold shower and we were surprised to find a mini-ref! I did notice though that the water in the comfort room was salty. My boyfriend said he doesn't think it's seawater but rather a deep-well water that had seawater mixed in it.
The biggest downside of this place though is it's overpriced rates. Here's my biggest tip: book a room in Patrick's and nothing else! Their motorcycle rental and island hopping rates are ridiculously expensive. Their breakfast meals are a little too pricey in my opinion but lunch was reasonable.
For questions on room rates and availability, just go to their website or contact them through their mobile phones or email (preferably).

Where to go?

Day 2: Magpupungko Rock Pool

The beauty of this natural pool can only be enjoyed during low tide so before going here, take time to check the tides otherwise your trip will have been for nothing. We woke up very early since the low tide on that day was in early morning and mid-afternoon and since we'll be island hopping three islands on the same day, we decided to go to Magpupungko at 6 AM.
This was the main reason why we rented a motorcycle. My boyfriend printed a map and drove for a little over an hour to reach the place. We were hoping to catch the sunrise but we were already too late and shortly before we arrived, it rained hard that I was worried we won't be able to enjoy the place and take good pictures.
I enjoyed the trip going to Magpupungko although my butt hurt sitting on the motorcycle for over an hour. We stopped at one part of the road to take pictures of the beautiful mountainside. I was also amused by the crows flying over or pecking in the middle of the road since I've never seen one up close but the place seemed to be a natural habitat for them.
